Should I still take my medication and daily supplements while I cleanse?

Should I still take my medication and daily supplements while I cleanse? We recommend you check with your prescribing health care practitioner before using Cleanse 28 or Cleanse 14 while taking medication. Your health care practitioner should monitor medication as needs for medication can change during a Cleanse. You may take your normal daily supplements except when on the deepest (master) phase of the Cleanse. It is best to avoid supplements that are protein based, contain salt, soy, dairy or foods listed on the acid-forming foods list. It is also best to avoid probiotics that contain large amounts of lactobacillus, which can be extremely acid-forming. You may however, take our Flora Grow, which contains strains natural to the human body and will not produce an acid environment.

May I speak with Dr. Anderson?

May I speak with Dr. Anderson?  Richard Anderson has retired to write and continue his research projects and is no longer involved in the company. We hope that he will release several new books over the next few years.

I’m concerned about losing too much weight on The Cleanse.

I’m concerned about losing too much weight on The Cleanse. Most people find that their weight stabilizes quite nicely after a Cleanse. During your Cleanse you may consume organically produced electrolyte rich foods (listed under what can I eat in the About Cleansing section) and green supplements.

What are Wild-Crafted Herbs?

What are Wild-Crafted Herbs? Wild-crafted herbs are herbs grown and collected in their natural wild habitat. Such herbs tend to have greater potency than their cultivated counterparts. The herbs used Chomper, Herbal Nutrition, Chomper with Cayenne, Chomper Aid and Psyllium are organically grown, wildcrafted or grown without chemicals (we support transitional farming to organic).

What are Electrolytes?

What are Electrolytes? Electrolytes are special minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, lithium and phosphorus) that are used at a cellular level (especially nerve, heart, muscle) to maintain voltages across cell membranes and to carry electrical impulses (nerve impulses, muscle contractions) across themselves and to other cells. They are essential for the life and function of every cell in our body. They also are essential for the efficient digestion of food, for transporting nutrients and waste in and out of cells, for enzyme function, building bone and all other metabolic functions. Some electrolytes are life-essential in maintaining proper pH in our cells and fluids.

The kidneys work to keep the electrolyte concentrations in the blood constant, despite changes in the body. For example, heavy exercise depletes electrolytes, particularly sodium and potassium, through sweating. Replacement of these key minerals is essential to keep the electrolyte concentrations of body fluids constant. Electrolytes are also diminished by the consumption of acid forming foods and by Cleansing. People who do not eat enough fruit and vegetables can easily become electrolyte deficient. Electrolyte deficiencies are common and are associated with ill health.

What is meant by organic minerals?

What is meant by organic minerals? Many doctors, including PhD’s conducting research at medical labs use the term “organic” to describe minerals that have passed through the plant kingdom which through photosynthesis, have been chelated to a protein molecule and transmuted from an ionic bond, normal in minerals from rock, to a covalent bond.

Basically, when a plant protein (proteins are composed of amino acids; the building blocks of the human body) attaches to a mineral, it creates an organic compound. Organic compounds are defined as compounds containing carbon. Perhaps it could be better stated that they are organic mineral compounds, however, standard nomenclature is organic mineral. Minerals in this form are able to be metabolized and used in the body. For example: these factors allow the body to separate minerals such as sodium and chloride, as in sodium chloride. Separating sodium from chloride allows the body to discard the chloride. Chloride is highly toxic and is what causes sodium chloride to be so toxic, caustic and threatening to those who have high blood pressure, etc.

Amino acids are biological compounds that contain carbon, hydrogenoxygen, and nitrogen along with other elements.

Can children take Arise & Shine products and do the Cleanse?

Arise & Shine’s Cleanse 28 and Cleanse 14 programs are designed for adults. Please read our Cleanse Guide for complete details.

Can I eat nuts, seeds or grains on the Cleanse?

Can I eat nuts, seeds or grains on the Cleanse? We provide a list of what foods are best to eat and to avoid the About section of this website.  As a rule these foods slow the cleansing down and should be avoided. However, sometimes we need to slow the cleansing down. You may also see our free downloadable Cleanse Guide for more details.

Why do I sometimes see a Proposition 65 Warning?

Why do I sometimes see a Proposition 65 Warning? Proposition 65 is short for California Proposition 65, also known as The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Water Enforcement Act of 1986. It requires that any product or facility that contains a chemical known to cause cancer or birth defects must include a warning when the chemical is present above a pre-determined “safe harbor” limit.

Because Arise & Shine products are offered and sold to residents of the state of California we are required to inform Californians if one of approximately 800 substances on a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm is contained within our products. This list includes many substances that are naturally occurring in small or trace amounts in many botanicals, as well as broccoli, spinach and other common foods.

This well intentioned law has a few inherent flaws that affect all of us doing business with Californians. Because our products are of botanical origin, we have placed Prop 65 warnings on most of our products to ensure complete compliance with this state’s law. Arise & Shine products are completely safe for consumption, only contain ingredients generally recognized as safe (GRAS) and meet all federal safety standards.

What about working out while on the Cleanse 28 or Cleanse 14 Program?

What about working out while on the Cleanse 28 or Cleanse 14 Program? You can work out lightly during your Cleanse. By the second week one should go to non-aerobic forms of exercise like light yoga, Tai Chi, walking or gentle swimming. Jogging, rebounding or any activity that creates sweat or bouncing of the intestine is not recommended. Remember that when you exercise vigorously you are using electrolyte minerals that you may need for cleansing. In general, cleansing is a good time to rest and tune into your body and spirit. When you complete your cleanse you can return to your normal workout with renewed vitality. In fact, you will be amazed at how much energy you will have.

What can I use as a sweetener?

What can I use as a sweetener? One of the benefits of cleansing that many people report is a decrease in their cravings for sweets. If you do want to sweeten something, organic Stevia, honey, molasses and maple syrup are all acceptable in moderation. However, do not use any sweeteners when doing the deepest phase; the Master Phase with water only, as any sweetener during this period will significantly reduce the effectiveness of this life-changing phase.

Are Sea Salt and Braggs OK?

Are Sea Salt and Braggs Liquid Aminos OK? Generally No. Most sea salt is not an organic mineral, it is abrasive to the intestines and can significantly interfere with the removal of mucoid plaque. Braggs, a soy sauce alternative, is okay when only small amounts are used on food. It is not, however, recommended, as it can produce salt-like reactions (mild edema).

What can I use as a salt substitute?

What can I use as a salt substitute? Celery and a variety of sea vegetables provide a good salty flavor. Dulse, Kelp, celery powder and seed are best. If you must have salt use Celtic sea salt or a salt that has been sun dried.  Be aware that salt will greatly slow down or stop cleansing as it seems to harden mucoid plaque.

What spices can I use?

What spices can I use? You can use all spices (preferably organically grown or wildcrafted)  except commercial black pepper, table salt and salt products. See about cleansing and the Cleanse Guide for more details.

What snacks can I have?

What snacks can I have? Raw vegetables are the best choice. See About Cleansing or the Cleanse Guide for details.

When can I snack?

When can I snack? It is best to snack (if you really need to) 45 to 60 minutes before or after a Cleansing shake (except on the master phases).

Can I do only a week of Mildest Phase and then a week of the Master Phase?

Can I do only a week of Mildest Phase and then a week of the Master Phase? Yes, as long as you pass the pH tests. Please refer to the Cleanse Guide for details. This is how we originally did the Cleanse in the 1980s but it was too uncomfortable for some people, especially those with a lot of toxicity.

Are there heavy metals in the Trace Minerals supplement that I should be concerned about?

Are there heavy metals in the Trace Minerals supplement that I should be concerned about? There are heavy metals in almost everything including Trace Minerals because they naturally occur in the soil. There are heavy metals in the foods you eat and if it’s commercially grown, then there may also be toxic heavy metals accumulated from pesticide residues. Inorganic arsenic, lead and other heavy metals are used in pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. The question is, are the naturally occurring heavy metals that are bound with plant proteins toxic? Evidence suggests they are not; however, we are not aware of any studies on this, so we can’t say with certainty. What we can say is that we have been safely using our trace minerals since the 1980s.

What is Mucoid Plaque?

What is Mucoid Plaque? Mucoid plaque can be described as a gel-like, viscous and slimy mucus that forms as a layer or layers covering the inner lining of various hollow organs, especially the organs of the alimentary canal. It appears to develop in the presence of acids, where that mucus is secreted and coagulates.

As it continues to develop from unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits, mucoid plaque can harbor toxins and interfere with nutrient absorption, in a sense robbing your body of the vital components it needs to function. The Cleanse has been specifically formulated for, and is effective in assisting your body in removing ‘mucoid plaque’.*

Plaque Observations:

  • In most people, mucoid plaque is 1/64th to 1/4th inch thick, but occasionally may be more than 1 inch thick.
  • Not everyone has mucoid plaque, but over 95% of people who have cleansed, have eliminated at least some mucoid plaque.
  • Some who have a high intake of table salt have trouble removing the plaque.
  • Mucoid plaque can be a variety of colors: white, yellow, gray, greenish, tan, light or dark brown, black, and even blackish green.
  • Mucoid plaque can range from stiff and hard to soft and more flexible. For some people herbs even liquefy the plaque and they release globs of mucous!
  • Mucoid plaque is often shiny or smooth; some pieces may look like rope, showing striations, smoothness, overlaps, or creases.
  • Sections of plaque as large as 2-4 feet long or more are not entirely uncommon, however most cleansers can expect plaque to come out in sections on average of 6-18 inches long.
